  • What was the GWE born out of? (What was your situation)

The Gippsland Wellness Expo began off the back of the Week of Wellness, a week of health and wellness providers offering an online discount in 2022. There were approximately 20 businesses involved and many of them decided to be involved in the expo. The expo was inspired by London’s Health Optimisation Summit, a three day event including business stalls, seminars, and workshops. We hope to grow our expo to include workshops and seminars to provide a holistic experience.

  • What made you want to create the GWE? (What need did you see?)

We created the expo due to a shortage of events in the local region that showcase health and wellness opportunities available. The Week of Wellness highlighted the range of businesses that many had not heard of, even within the same wellness industry. A vehicle to promote and expose all these wonderful businesses was needed. Plus, creating a network within the industry for collaborations and referrals would benefit all. Connecting community to available health and wellness services and supporting small business in the region.

  • How did you begin the process of your very first expo?

We initially began by gauging the interest from health and wellness businesses with overwhelming support. Followed by securing a venue and a system of registration. We were learning as we go and had quite a few hiccups along the way, like a last minute change of venue. We then had the task of marketing on a very limited budget. The majority of our marketing was word of mouth and social media sharing.

  • How big was the 2023 expo? How did it go? (Mention how many stalls + range of businesses)

The 2023 expo was a huge success for our first expo, with approximately 700 attendees. Almost 40 businesses had stalls from a vast range of modalities. Patrons were impressed with the range of services available and many said an event like this was needed in the region.

  • How did you build it SO much bigger for 2024?

The success of 2023 inspired new businesses to join us in 2024, plus we had a waitlist of those we couldn’t fit into the 2023 venue that were eager to attend in 2024. Therefore, we were on the search for a much bigger venue and managed to secure Kernot Hall.

We try to create a community with all the businesses involved and work closely with them, everyone has a say in the organisation of the expo. This encourages support of each other, collaborations and promotion of the expo. The more businesses involved, the wider reach to our target audience.

  • How did the 2024 expo go? (Mention how many stalls + range of businesses)

Another great success, with over 60 businesses involved – we filled Kernot Hall. Those that attended both years recorded a twofold increase in sales or interest. The number of attendees increased to 1200. We also held Gippsland’s first Strongman Games hosted by Complete Strength, an event to be held at the expo annually. This strong steady growth will ensure the expo is a success for years to come.

  • What are your plans for the 2025 expo?

Many businesses are keen to return for 2025, the Strongman Games will be on again. We will be introducing seminars and workshops to help inform and educate the community on their health and wellness. And we hope to be incorporating more interactive experiences across the weekend, for adults and children.

  • What is your end vision for the expo?

Our vision is create a holistic health and wellness experience for the community. Showcasing services and products available for healthy living. We are also building a network within the industry that support each other and work together to support the community in their wellness journey. Supporting local small businesses.
